While active-duty assigned military defense counsel attempt to remain impartial, it is difficult for them not to consider the impact on their future career when making decisions in defense of clients that may go against the wishes of the command. Mr. Sigmon is not hindered by the restraints or demands of active duty service, and does not hesitate to go against the command structure when necessary to defend his client.
Assigned military defense counsel are routinely assigned a heavy caseload, are tasked with handling many types of disciplinary actions in addition to their trial schedule, and are required to perform other military duties that also reduce the time available for each case. Mr. Sigmon accepts a very limited number of cases in order to give your case the time and attention it requires for the best possible outcome.
Assigned military defense counsel are usually junior officers who rarely possess anything close to Mr. Sigmon’s level of expertise. Mr. Sigmon has personally tried approximately 100 courts-martial, served as military judge in more than 70 cases, and worked on over 800 cases on appeal.
Mr. Sigmon has worked closely with military investigation agencies and possesses first-hand knowledge of how military investigation agencies work. Mr. Sigmon also has a select list of civilian forensic experts to provide impartial assistance in developing a defense strategy in many areas of the law.
